How Important is General Awareness for SSC?
There is always a misconception that SSC is all about Maths and English since these are repeated at all stages. There is no denying that Maths and English are very important for SSC but at the same time one cannot overlook the importance of General Awareness especially in the scenario of SSC exams becoming very competent.
With the advent of online exams, questions have become very competent as month long exams require varied questions. And 150+ has become the norm. So just doing English, Maths and Reasoning is not going to fetch that marks. It should be noted that in Tier 1, General Awareness occupies one-fourth (25 q) of the total 100 questions. These 25 questions can be completed in a very short time of around 10 minutes when compared to Maths and Reasoning. Having no sectional cut off also helps in giving an edge to General Awareness.
However, it should be kept in mind that being very vast and varied, mastering general awareness takes a chunk of time. It requires a proper strategy and systematic study. The subjects involved in GA are History, Geography, Economics, Polity, GK, Science, Computer Science and Current Affairs. Any one among these can gain weightage in the online exam that you write. If somebody gets more number of questions from polity, some others may get it from current affairs. So it all depends on the time you give your online exam. A selective study of the topics of GA would be very risky. A wide knowledge on all the topics mentioned is a must for the aspirant. And for that continuous and consistent learning is necessary.
Proper revision, ample practice and a strong determination can help in attaining 40+ marks in GA section.
